The Partners

The First Step campaign is brought to you by efforts of the Ardmore Foundation, the County of Summit Board of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities, and Hattie Larlham. These organizations encourage all of Northeast Ohio to explore the diversity that makes our communities great.

The Ardmore Foundation

Ardmore is a private, non-profit corporation established in 1976 to provide alternatives to institutional living for residents of Summit County who are developmentally disabled.

Ardmore, Inc., was founded in 1976 when its first home on Ardmore Avenue was opened to provide services to two men. The founding philosophy of Ardmore has always been to emphasize the right of each individual to live and participate in the community in the least restrictive environment while striving for the greatest measure of independence. The Ardmore Agency has been a pioneer in Ohio, as it has challenged and defined the right of each individual with a development disability to be a part of the community in which he/she lives, works, and socializes.

Ardmore operates small and foster care homes and provides case work support to individuals in our supported living program who live alone, with roommates, or spouses. The Ardmore staff is committed to advocate for the rights of each individual and to provide consistent quality support services for those we serve. Each facility, consisting of one to four individuals, has 24-hour staff availability with low staff-to-clients ratios. Clients participate in vocational and/or educational day programs outside the home as well as normal daily routines in the home designed to teach daily living skills and foster self-reliance.

The County of Summit Board of MR/DD

The mission of the County of Summit Board of Mental Retardation and Developmental

The CSBMR/DD provides services to more than 2,900 individuals with disabilities and their families in Summit County.
